Quaking in My Boots
My first post, my first blog, my anxiety. As I read other fellow Slicers encouraging us firsties, I thought I would try. Getting older you start to care less about appearances and want to jump in both feet. So here I go!
I have used wrting as therapy for myself, entertainment for others, and encouragement for dear friends and family. That is my quandry; what is my purpose here?
To become a better teacher I need to write. That is my answer. I don’t like being reviewed, checked on, critisized. And that is my first lesson, as a teacher I must respect and honor my students’ writing first. So here I go.
Pulling into my driveway last night, coming home from work late, again. Exhausted, tired, frustrated with myself, I can never seem to catch up. I tell myself all the time, “It’s impossible, you will never be done. It’s called life.” Sighing, as I pull into the gravel drive, my headlights shining down the path, with a dim light surrounding the area alongside the drive I see my favorite little guy, Bunny. He’s small, swift, and happy. Don’t ask me how I know, I just know. Something about that quick, low movement across the grass in the stillness of the evening, how could he not be content?
Once again I remind myself, nature speaks to me, calms me. She reminds me the important things in life are the little things, those small moments that make me happy. I have a long list over the years. My adventures through this beautiful world always keep me in my place.
It’s definitely those small moments! Great when they come when we need them.
Good luck! I always feel accomplished when I’m able to complete this challenge. I hope you enjoy it!

Thanks Tara. I appreciate the support of the group. It’s like training, if you have someone you are supposed to meet with, it forces you to step up!
Best of luck with all of your new challenges.

Donna, thank you for responding. I feel the support of this writing group will really make a difference. I like the idea of joy- it’s made of the little things in a day. 🙂

I hope you enjoy this challenge and it helps you grow as a writing teacher and a writer. I know how scary it was my first year Slicing, but I am in my third year now. Sometimes it is scary, but the SOL community is amazingly supportive and encouraging. Thanks for sharing!

Welcome to the slice of life community! This will be an amazing month for you. I remember being so nervous my first year, but I have also learned how important it is for me to write as a teacher of writing. Good luck!

Long time blogger, first time SOLer here! 🙂 I feel your anxiety and understand your stress about this. I also understand the calm that nature brings. As I pull into my driveway tonight, my two border collies will meet me at the door, happy to see me home. Our barn cats will be there yelling to be fed, as will the heifers in the barn. Then, I ‘ll get a cup of tea, sit in the sunroom, and just relax, happy to be home.
Thank you for sharing a little slice of yourself with us! 🙂 I look forward to growing along with you in this journey! 🙂

Welcome to the world of slicing! I was so happy today when I only saw deer in the field. No up close personal inspection needed! Can’t wait to learn more from your blog. There is no better group to write with and for in the world! 🙂

Hi Fran,
It’s interesting how many of us have commented on wildlife in our blogs. I wonder if teachers and or writers are in tune with nature more so than some people.

I’m not sure if it’s “in tune with nature” or our curiosity – or like me . . .I live in a timber. It’s really their land. I’m the visitor!

Definitely my curiosity. I love that, it’s their land, we are the visitors. I was reminded often with 30 days of hiking in national parks last summer. It was the bears’ territory, not mine!

I hope you’re feeling better soon! I swear “it” is everywhere. We are having 5 kids a day go home sick. Teachers too. No fun. Rest up, and don’t go back too soon!

Nature calms me too and I often struggle with a never-ending “to-do” list! So glad you are here!

So I clicked on your link because I love bunnies, and here you even wrote about one in your slice! The bunnies around our house always seem to appear when I need an extra smile too! 🙂 It’s funny to say from just one slice, but I think you and I are a lot alike — from the worrying to the nature! Hope you enjoy the challenge!

You definitely have a writer’s eye as you notice the world around you! You CAN do it, but you are right- there is never enough time for everything.
Happy slicing!

Welcome! Starting blogging and slicing AND the March challenge all at once just might say something about your personality. 🙂
I also started to push myself as a teacher of writing, yet I have found so much more. Enjoy the journey and the community.

Your writing feels so natural, speaking of nature. I felt immersed in your experience of coming home from work and all those feelings. I’m glad Bunny came to see you. What Important reminders! I’m a first time slicer, too! Glad we can support and encourage one another!
